It's Not Raining, It's Our President!

I found these two videos today on HotAir.  Take a good listen to both of them.  Something both cynical and hilarious is happening.  Apparently, central to Barack Obama's campaign strategy this year will be his ability to flat out tell lies with a straight face.  I realize, before you start sending comments about how I am a fool to have not noticed this before, that lying is a part of any politicians repertoire, but this is different.  Laced with in the Zero's rhetorical past have always been little snippets of actual fact, not enough to make it honest, but enough to merely be mostly deceitful.  This is a small distinction I admit, but at least that little iota of truth within the lie usually remained.  Well, nuts to that strategy. Little Barry has decided to completely abandon any pretext of being truthful, and now has full out assumed that most Americans will do nothing by way of fact checking him.

Keep in mind this little fact, Mary Landrieu is from President Obama's very own political party.  This is not some partisan attack upon the President's good name being perpetrated by those evil Republicans who are only seeking to damage the President politically, rather than actually being helpful.  Also, and I urge you to watch the videos again, take note of the fact that Ken Salazar, tries to put out that old canard of we leased x number of millions of acres for exploration.  The good people of the Oil and Gas industry have been facing this baloney for decades.  The problem with demanding that they drill on already leased land before seeking to explore other places is that it does no one any actual good to drill baby drill somewhere that oil or gas does not exist.  Landrieu does a good job of calling Salazar on the carpet over this blatant piece of deceptive statistics, something which I thought a Democrat would never do.  Granted, she is from Louisiana, and the Oil and Gas Industry are of paramount importance to the people of her state, as the Louisiana economy is almost entirely dependent upon drilling in the Gulf.

All of this is played of course against a back drop of a President who stands as our nation's first chief executive to be held in contempt of court over this very issue.  While Secretary Salazar was spouting those dishonest statistics which were designed to make us all believe that our President is working diligently to get our own energy production revved up, a Federal Judge in Louisiana has already ordered the White House to quit the practice of indefinitely stalling all Gulf Oil Permits, and issued a subsequent contempt order for the President's refusal to heed the original order.  The fact is, the Obama Administration has processed exactly the minimum number of permits necessary to prevent one of their Administration being incarcerated.

No matter what the President and his minions say about how he has actually done more than any other President to increase our energy production, relieve businesses from the cancerous regulatory environment which he has largely helped to build, and the actual efficacy of his disastrous monetary policy, one quick glance at reality tells a far different story.  The rosy economic picture and reporting being touted daily in our press does not square at all with reality and what people are living every day.  Consider this, on the day that Barack Obama was inaugurated in January of 2009, 39 short months ago, The United States of America ranked as the 4th most economically free society in the world.  Today, we rank 10th.  This is not the result of someone leading our nation who has deregulation in mind.  For those of you who are curious, Hong Kong, a society that is technically under Communist rule, actually ranks number one.

I have been inundated with emails from the Obama Campaign on a constant basis for some time now.  Each of these helpful little steaming piles of crap claims to be setting the record straight.  Barack it seems believes that he is the only hope left for the small business owner, and that he wishes to defend us from those big bad evil large corporations.  So, as a small business owner I must also strive to set the record straight. Barack Obama has been an unmitigated disaster for us small guys out here living in the land of reality.  In my industry, the financial services industry, he has worked almost exclusively to destroy us little guys and insure that the big boys have limited competition. That is the true record of the Obama Administration in my little corner of the world.

Here is my message to the Obama folks out there.  Quit urinating on my head and telling me that it's raining.  I can tell the difference.

Danger U.S. Citizens: Smart Diplomacy At Work Here!

Political Cartoons by Glenn Foden

I promised myself that I would not spend 4 solid years griping about how terrible a President Barack Obama would turn out to be, (having grown extremely tired of hearing about how George W. Bush was responsible for every evil in the universe, whether real or fabricated,) I am chagrined to see glaring examples on a near constant basis of how dangerous a man this is, who currently occupies our Oval Office. Much has been written and debated already about the Barack Obama national apologapalluza. It escapes me entirely how any person, no matter what their political bent, could defend the blatant incompetence of a President who so cavalierly places American lives in danger in such an empty manner. That this man was touted as somehow being intellectually superior to we mere mortals is laughable. That the same people who told us tales of little Barry's great mental prowess also told us that President Bush was not smart should disqualify them from ever again being taken seriously. That the Democrats have not only failed to muzzle their idiot in chief candidate from doing more harm, solely for the purposes of political damage control shows how dangerous the Democrat Party truly is to the Citizens of these United States.

First off, in case you did not realize this, Afghanistan is in a state of war right now. During times of war, regrettably, things get broken, burned, and often times people are hurt. I would almost understand if our personnel rounded up every single copy of the Q'ran and saw to a mass destruction of all of them. Maybe then, the epithets and comparisons to Nazi's burning books would be appropriate. As it is, these were two copies of a book for which this would be impossible. These books were burned accidentally by troops wishing to stop the communication of enemies through covert means. If you want to be angry with these fellows, be angry that they did not turn over these already defaced Q'rans to their intelligence units for analysis and counter espionage protocols. Since Barack Obama's heart felt over the top apology, riots and national seething has ruled the Muslim Street. Of course, that unfortunately is the reaction we have become accustomed to. So far, 4 American Service Members have been killed. Barack Obama cares nothing for them. Moral Equivalence you see allows him to equate their deaths with the events blamed for them. Make no mistake about it though, if messages are being passed amongst the insurgents who are killing American Troops, then those messages should be intercepted and or stopped by any means necessary. If one American life is saved by burning a Q'ran, then I say Fahrenheit 451 or 452, what ever it takes. Wars are won by killing the enemy, breaking his spirit, and destroying his things. Wars are not won by helping the enemy with his self esteem.

This nonsense of turning our military into the world's largest social services outreach organization began in earnest under the terrible leadership of William Jefferson Clinton. The program has been placed on steroids by Barack Hussein Obama. Our standing on the world stage has gone from respected to laughed at. For anybody who believes that we were hated while George W. Bush was in office, I have this to say. You were probably only listening to the Marxists around the world. He was hailed as a hero in most of Africa, much of Europe, and even thought of fondly in several of the places formerly controlled by Marxists. While that is not everyone, he, and consequently we were at least taken seriously. That is not true today. Barack Obama, and consequently the rest of us are considered a toothless joke.

The Obama apology tour has placed every American in danger any where that they travel around the world. Where once upon a time, people every where thought twice about kidnapping, bombing, or generally messing with Americans, Barack Obama has seen to it that this behavior will not only go completely unpunished, but net you one of his famous lofty sounding apologies for our transgressions, whether they actually happened or not. So, my question for you 52% of Americans who voted for this man, is this what you consider a smart execution of our foreign policy? Is this what you had in mind for an American President? I would also like to point out this other little fact. What ever success in our foreign policy that Barack Obama has enjoyed, and for that matter endlessly spiked the proverbial football, has come because of the benefit afforded by the Bush policies that he campaigned against, (enhanced interrogation techniques, Gitmo detainees, wiretapping of known enemy combatants, targeted drone assassinations, etc.)

War is hell, and the only thing worse sometimes than fighting one is not fighting the ones where we have a chance to stop true evil, such as is the case in Afghanistan and Iraq and Iran. I will add this caveat though, if we are going to send our sons and daughters over there to fight, we better send them to win. These asinine rules of engagement are worse than anything. We need to quit undermining their mission and allow them to do their jobs. My son in law is in Afghanistan, and I sure don't want him to fall victim to Barack Obama's moronic sense of moral equivalency.

When Is It O.K. To Laugh At A President?

Michael Ramirez Cartoon

Algae!? Really, Mr. President, that's your idea? That's going to be what saves us, and allows us to fuel, quite literally a brand new vibrant and growing economy? Left and Right take turns alternately admonishing the other side of the political divide about the popper respect due to the office of the Presidency. I do feel that the office deserves respect, but I also believe that the person occupying that office should be the number one example of how that respect be paid. One of the truly beautiful things about some of our greatest Presidents is that they all knew that they were merely occupants of that office, and that they were put in charge of institutions which were truly greater than any one person, or even groups of people. So, my question is a simple one. At what point does a single man do such a disservice to that office that outright ridicule is not only allowed, but demanded of those who make up the governed?

Personally, for me anyhow, trying to sell Americans on using Algae as our main source of energy crosses that point. Before you pseudo scientific environmentalists start screaming about my being anti-science, I realize that research into the energy productive or any other possible uses of Algae would be a good thing, and that in the future, Algae may prove to be a super cool new toy. Suggesting that today, Algae is a viable alternative to our current providers of energy can best be described as one of the single dumbest statements of all time. The fact that our President said it is simply astounding. As of now, the debate of who is smart and who is dumb is officially over, and those who see Barack Obama as smart have to be either lying or high or completely brain dead.

I do not know if Barack Obama believes this idiocy or not. I do know that he has spent his entire term in office so far working feverishly to insure that our oil production and electricity production slows to a point where it is a hindrance to our economy rather than a fuel for it. Being the First President to ever be held in contempt of court for ending all oil Production in the Gulf is only the tip of the Ice berg. Little Barry has been using our increased percentage of oil coming from domestic sources a point in his reelection bid. What he leaves out of course is that the major reason for this has happened in spite of his policies and not as a result of them. If he were in fact an emperor as he wishes, that productivity for which he is spiking the football so to speak, known as the Bakken Formation, would be producing no oil at all. When President Obama took the Oath of Office in January of 2009, our nation ranked 4th in terms of Economic Freedom according to the Heritage Foundation. Three years later, and we have slipped to 10th on that list.

For years, Barack Obama has been traveling the country stating that he would like to see gas prices around $10 per gallon. His reason of course, that's the price when those high speed rail systems start to make economic sense to a population that escaped that vastly inferior form of transportation over a hundred years ago. We had windmills in the 1600's as well, and found a better form for delivering our energy needs. His goal of bankrupting the electricity industry of course will make windmills seem viable in the long run, only if we make the price for a kilowatt hour so expensive artificially, that using a system which only worked occasionally would be the best that we could hope for. Of course, openly stating that to the American People would be political suicide. After the Windmill and Solar Panel businesses suffered the inevitable high profile bankruptcies, even after receiving massive subsidization, what does an inherently dishonest President have left?

What he has left is Algae. He must think that a vast majority of Americans are the dumbest people on the planet. Exit questions for the environmentalists: What on Earth do you think will be the environmental impact of taking all of the Algae from the World's Oceans and burning it? How much Algae do we need to burn to move a half ton automobile 10 miles? Wouldn't the Carbon Gas created from burning Algae be the same as carbon created from burning other forms of oil? How can you keep a straight face when discussing anything having to do with our current President?

Sunday At The Movies! "Smiley's People," Chapter 4: Otto's Evidence

As the American version of, "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy," is currently running in theaters across the country, I thought it might be fun to skip ahead two novels and post the BBC miniseries, "Smiley's People." I'll put up a chapter on Sundays over the next month and a half. I have not seen the American version of the Fist novel in the Karla series yet, but years ago, while attending Ohio State, I along with a room mate in my dorm watched for 7 consecutive Sundays the BBC version. "Smiley's People," represents the 7th novel featuring George Smiley, and the 3rd involving his life long nemesis, Karla Ostrakov.

During Chapter 4, Smiley travels to Hamburg in order to collect the remainder of evidence collected by Otto Leipzig. Having been forced into retirement twice by bumbling bureaucrats and seeing both times the destruction of MI6 by the non professionals put in charge of running the service afterwords, and further, being blamed by those same bureaucrats for the aftermath of the actions taken, Smiley decides to launch his own operation to once again do battle with his life long nemesis, Karla Ostrakov. What we can deduce from the first 3 chapters is that Karla has chosen the exiled Lady Ostrakova, who by happy coincidence shared a last name with Karla, and had been forced to abandon her own daughter some years earlier, to be duped into being an adoptive mother for his own daughter, who was suffering from schizophrenia, a disease for which Soviet Medical practice was woefully inadequate. Smiley takes his operation to the furthest extent that he can, without his former agency's involvement. It is at that point that he reluctantly involves them. We also get to see the utter contempt that the ambassadorial staff has for the intelligence service personnel and vice versa. A happy piece of luck for Smiley is that Peter Guillam, former head of the Scalp Hunters during George's day in charge is now head of Paris Station in the British Embassy. Guillam, even after learning that George is flying solo follows Smiley's instructions, as Smiley has earned his respect many times over.

Faces you might recognize. Michael Byrne, who appeared in this as Peter Guillam, was General Vogel in the third Indiana Jones Movie, Grandewalt in the last Harry Potter installment, and Smythe in, "Braveheart." Tusse Silberg who appeared in this as Tatiana (Alexandra) Ostrakova, was Natasha in the movie, "Gorky Park," one of my personal all time favorites. Bill Patterson, who was Lauder Strikland in Smiley's People also played the role of Dr. MacEntire in, "The Killing Fields."

Agent - A spy recruited by a foreign government to spy on their own country. This term should not be confused with a case officer, the intelligence service member who recruited and then handled the spy.

Babysitters - Bodyguards

Circus - MI6, the British intelligence service.

The Competition - MI5, British counter espionage service. Also referred to as the, "security mob."

The Cousins - The CIA or any American intelligence service.

Distress Rocket - An emergency signal to a logistical support structure that a crash meeting or other prearranged measures are necessary, often involving new identities and emergency legends.

Ferrets - Tech people who find and remove bugs, cameras, or an attempt to spy on the good guys.

Janitors - Headquarters staff and guards of internal secure areas.

Lamplighters - Watchers, surveillance staff, couriers.

Legend - A false biography and accompanying documents for a covert operative, be they a control officer or a mole.

Mole - A recruited agent who does not begin spying on his target for a long period of time. Usually they have worked their way up through an organization until such time as a preset target has been reached, and then activated after a period of years. In, "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy," for instance, Gerald was recruited in 1955 and not activated until 1972.

Mothers - Secretaries, researchers, clerical staff, most trusted by case officers.

Nuts and Bolts - Logistical support.

Saturday At The Movies! Nontroversial Outrage Edition.

I saw this on HotAir last night, and had to run it here. If you're like me, you want this young lady to run for the Republican Nomination as well, but as Allahpundit put it, she's most obviously too young. Still, it's nice to see that someone gets it.

This one's just plain funny. PETA sent a drone over a pigeon shoot in Georgia. Guess what happened next. Not much left of the drone, but at least PETA learned a lesson about offering drunk guys with guns a challenging target.

Let's wrap it up with LibertyPen providing a video clip of one of Dr. Friedman's last appearances. Brilliant to the end, we could use a few more like Milton Friedman today.

Herman Cain's Speech Stumping For Newt Gingrich.

It is truly a shame that this man was destroyed the way he was, by unsubstantiated, untrue, and completely fabricated allegations. It is a deeper shame that even those of us on the political right allowed ourselves to be duped by this. Many of us on the right wrote impassioned articles defending Herman Cain, but our voices were not nearly strong enough to stem the tide. While I ultimately threw my weight, such as it is, behind Newt Gingrich, Cain and Perry were a close second and third. Cain absolutely nails it here with his assessment of the budget proposed by our little boy President and his assertions that we are all citizens of Fantasy Land now. The three important numbers to remember are 35, 50, and 80.

It is refreshing to see someone who based his decision on whom to endorse on his ideology and not on some other, "what's in it for me in terms of political gain later," reason. Our economy will cease to exist in 2027 completely, unless people quickly start standing up and putting the nation first, above their own specific interests. Both Herman Cain, and Rick Perry have endorsed Newt Gingrich. This, to me anyhow, makes sense from a ideological stand point, since the three of them were very close on most issues.

The good thing about that date of 2027 is this, our budgets will be balanced from that date forward. What we will learn as a nation is this. The problem is not our revenue, what we collect from taxation, but our spending. Our economy is capable of producing $2.1 Trillion in tax revenue per year, which in itself is a somewhat amazing fact. The problem is, we are mandated by statute to spend more than that amount on entitlements alone. Add to that the everything else, which includes education, energy, labor, infrastructure, defense, etc., and it all equals $3.8 Trillion. Our political leaders get elected by telling us that the impossible is possible if we merely send the bill to future generations, kicking that can down the road until that sad day when the note comes due. 13 years is now the date that the bill comes due permanently. It is no longer possible to put this off to some later date that no one could possibly imagine. We need to stop adjusting our expenditures to match what we wish to have on hand to spend, but rather start living in the land of reality.

As a youth, while in high school, I took 4 trips to Washington D.C. with various groups of other youths. On a few occasions, we sat in the gallery of one of the Chambers of Congress and watched the people's business being attended to by slick people giving speeches. One Representative after another stood up and told the other members that we were in deep financial trouble due to our profligate spending habits, and that the only way to solve this crisis was to spend an increased amount of money on his district or pet project. I view the fault as being partly ours, since that is how these dolts got elected in the first place, by promising to bring home bacon, while not allowing anyone else to have any. Fantasy Land sucks, and it is high time we all left. Herman Cain gets this, as any outsider does, and Newt Gingrich gets it also, because contrary to what you may have heard, he is an outsider as well.

Gibson Guitars: Six Months Later.

Gibson Guitars, a company who's CEO, Henry Jusckiewicz, generally supports Republicans, has been raided and harassed twice during the last 39 months. The reason the Obama Administration used to effectively harm Gibson Guitars was the centuries old Lacey Act. This is an act that was passed originally to insure that fisherman and trappers from the U.S. would not travel to Canada and violate Canadian Law in order to sell Canadian fish and wild life here in the U.S. It was passed as a part of one of the first trade treaties between our two nations. Like all good acts passed by our Congress and enforced by the cabal of bureaucrats hired to oversee such things, it has grown in scope beyond not only its original intention, but also any reasonable interpretation by those of us who inhabit reality.

Gibson was raided because of some wood imported from Madagascar in 2009, and again in August of 2011, this time pertaining to rosewood imported from India. In either instance, the Government has yet to file charges. The net cost to Gibson so far is several Million Dollars in confiscated materials, productive closures and lost sales. Gibson of course wants her day in court. Gibson has been denied due process and her right to a speedy trial.Part of the reason Gibson has been denied her Fourth and Sixth Amendment rights is that the Obama Administration knew, even before going on this witch hunt, that they were wrong.

Andrea Johnson, who represents the Environmental Investigative Agency, the part of the EPA tasked with enforcing their little corner of the Lacey Act, (this sentence right here should be all the proof needed to show that both the Lacey Act and the EPA have grown beyond any reasonable description of their actual intent,) made some interesting statements during this video. She stated that, "it's not up to Gibson or any other company which laws of other countries they're going to respect. This is an issue about the mutual respect for law around the world, and that's what the Lacey Act says. That's the principle behind the Lacy Act."

I say let's take what Johnson says at face value. In fact, on this statement, I agree whole heartedly. The problem arises in her stance of course when both Madagascar and India have already come forward in Gibson's defense, prior to the raids, and stated that Gibson acted honorably and obeyed all of their laws in this and every other matter. It is Johnson, and the EPA who have shown no respect for the law, as her raids on their facility were a clear violation of the Fourth Amendment, not filing any charges in over three years is a violation of the Sixth Amendment. Add to this that it also stands to reason that it is not up to Johnson or any other Obama Administration official which laws of foreign nations that they are going to enforce as well. Let us not forget that in addition to harming Gibson, they have also harmed Madagascar and India, both countries who wish to continue doing business with Gibson Guitars. That she was able to make that statement with a smug little smile on her face merely adds salt to the wound that is the Obama Administration.

Johnson went on to say, "do individual musicians need to worry about the Lacey Act and about declaring their individual instruments when crossing international borders? The simplest answer is no....The government has no intention of enforcing the Lacey Act against individual owners of musical instruments." What she of course fails to mention is that other people who are not musicians are subject to those very stiff regulations, which are certainly obscure. This is a law with real teeth by the way, as the fines start off at $100,000, and hard time in the Federal Penn. How many of you fish? What kind of wood was used in your fishing rod? Where did the wood come from? I live on Lake Erie, and often times end up fishing in Canadian Waters, as many Canadians fish here in America. The fact is, the Lacey Act has been enforced already against individuals, maybe not musicians, but others for certain. The other point is this. Even if she magnanimously decides to allow guitar players to slide, they are still in violation of the law should they fail to make the Lacey Act declaration. Just because Andrea Johnson is so selectively gracious as to allow musicians to violate the laws enforced upon the rest of us, does not mean that the next Obama Appointee will feel the same way.

This case, as well as any other, highlights the true hideous nature of the leftists in charge. They take what little authority they do have, and they find ways to add to their scope, and size. "I control this little corner of the world, and I want more." We the people, and our consent to be governed are nothing more than an annoyance to them. That outdated document upon which our nation was founded is something to be done away with, as the founding fathers messed up by not just granting these smug little bureaucrats the authority to rule as they see fit.

Send This President To Camp. Part II

Right on cue, and as a perfect follow up to my post yesterday, Little Barry Soetoro, AKA, Barack Hussein Obama, President of the United States of America sent me an email. O.K., it wasn't really him, it was his campaign apparatus. I still laughed though. To give you that same knee slapper feeling, here, in its entirety, is that email.

Friend --

Tomorrow night, we'll pick the first of four supporters who will sit down with me for dinner.

I'm hoping you'll take me up on the invitation.

Donate $2 or whatever you can today to be automatically entered for the chance to be my first dinner guest.

These meals are one simple thing that sets this campaign apart. The seats at our table don't belong to any Washington lobbyist or powerful interest.

These seats are yours.

Donate $2 or more today and be automatically entered to win:

https://donate.barackobama.com/The-First-Guest

Hope to see you,

Barack

Now I ask you, is this the money raising methodology of someone expecting to actually raise $1 Billion? We've heard that number bandied about and feared it like a gun being pulled on us at the O.K. Corral. Bear in mind that this, "win a dream date with Barack and Joe," contest started out asking for a ten spot originally. It was quickly marked down to $5.00, then 4,3,2, and I even read over at HotAir that 8 bits will land you firmly entered into this hapless raffle. What we have now, is a President who is begging all of America to dig through those cushions on your Davenport or through the floor mats of your car for loose change in order to fund his Presidential reelection bid. Perhaps it's truly better this way, since his policies have led to an economic malaise which makes Jimmy Carter seem positively Presidential by comparison.

President Obama, the same man who has spent the last 6 years whining about the influence of money on elections, and coincidentally broke money raising records for his own campaign, announced in a serious manner that it was going to take a cool Billion to get his message across this time around. Trying to convince us all that down is up and red is blue takes a lot of cabbage. After all, we get far to little of the Teleprompter in Chief interrupting our prime time television programming for the purpose of telling us who we should all hate this week. If Barack knew he'd need a 1 with 9 zeros behind it in campaign cash from his loyal lemmings, perhaps he should have refrained from purposefully destroying the economy until after his second term began, rather than cutting off his nose to spite his face right from the beginning. Looking through your couch cushions may be the only option left, if donating to political campaigns is important to you. Too bad that for many Americans, this represents a choice between the, "win a date with Barack and Joe sweepstakes," and buying groceries to feed their families. Using it for gas is right out at this point, as that dollar will only purchase 33.6 fluid ounces, roughly enough to start most cars.

Exit question:

If I win that dream date with Frick and Frack, will I be allowed to give them a piece of my mind, or would that privilege cost me more?

Confidence: Why Obama Loses In A Landslide.

Political Cartoons by Glenn Foden

Much has been written and said about why and how Barack Obama became elected our 44th President. Every, "expert," and his brother has sounded off with some reason or another. I have heard some of the most nuanced and smart sounding crap in explanation of this, as if a vote were indeed some great mystery of the ages, that only those with decades spent in earnest study could possibly decipher.

After all of that, here is the reason. Barack Obama was elected to be our chief executive because 52% if Americans strategically located in our various states believed, rightly or wrongly, that he would be the best choice to create an environment where they would experience the greatest improvement in their living standards. While the sentence is longer than I wanted it to be, the concept is still very simple. We, as Americans want to to enjoy the best possible standard of living that we can carve out for ourselves. Two points about this standard of living. One, we like enjoying the fruits of our labors, and we like working for those rewards. Two, we like doing it for ourselves, and feeling necessary. Being needed, is as basic a human instinct as breathing. In as much as people end up voting for the Socialized protections afforded by left of center benefactors, it is invariably because they have been scared into believing that some bogey man was waiting around the corner to steal away from them the fruits of their labors.

Here is why I believe that in 10 months time, Barack Obama will take his well deserved place as an ex President. His campaign in 2012 will not be based on convincing Americans that his policies will lead to a greater standard of living for them. He has no choice but to convince Americans that they can not have the standard of living that they want to have. He instead will try to manage expectations to the point where people are willing to expect a lower standard of living based upon the mistaken belief that the successful people in our society won't let them have what they have earned. Class envy, fear of his competitors, manufactured crises, and a message of soaking the rich to benefit the collective is what his 2012 campaign will be about.

Over the last two years, I have been involved in several spirited debates about how electable Barack Obama is or isn't. During each debate, three major points always seem to come up, and neither one mind you involves any actual discussion on his agenda. One, Obama is viewed as some sort of Messianic figure by a number of his supporters. Two, the main stream media is in the tank for all things left of center and will not ever question, vet, investigate, nor even report on the goings on in the Obama world. Three, his war chest will be $1 Billion. I will stipulate to two of those three points, and I still believe that he is toast. Here is why.

While it is true that many bought previously the Obama is some sort of transcendent figure, he himself is now actively campaigning against that view. Think about it for a moment. 4 years ago, while he accepted the nomination for his party as candidate Obama, he proclaimed that this was the moment when the Earth began to heal, and the waters began to recede. Compare that with his latest State of the Union address, where he redefined the American Dream as people just wanting a decent place to live and the ability to have free health care, in order to avoid bankruptcy. Telling Americans that they can not work hard to determine for themselves, what lifestyles they ultimately get to enjoy, is not a winning message to deliver. The last 4 political candidates for our Presidency that delivered this message are, in order of appearance, George McGovern, Jimmy Carter, Walter Mondale, and Michael Dukakis. I would understand if those names mostly do not ring any bells, as history as rendered them to the deserved place of obscurity that they all so richly belong. Jimmy Carter did become our 39th President, but not based on his malaise message, that wonderful campaign platform did not happen until after his policies reached their inevitable failure. So, when Barack Obama resurrected the moth balled Carter ideas, the same inevitable failure naturally followed. The same message of accept the malaise has also followed. This message is a loser, no matter how much money little Barry has to spread it with.

Yes the media performed a disservice to all Americans for their lack of any type of attempt to vet Barack Obama, their complete lack of candor in accurately or even actually reporting on what his agenda would look like, their obvious cheer leading for his candidacy, their filtering of news to report for the express purpose of swaying public sentiment and thus opinion. The simple fact is, that this remains far easier to do with candidate Obama than it will be for President Obama. Americans have seen the Marxist Agenda, and they do not like it one little bit. We have outlets for our voices as well, and there are some things that have already been forgotten.

A short list to follow here. He used his political capital and the first two years of his Presidency passing three massively destructive pieces of legislation during the worst recession since WWII, none of the three had anything to with solving our economic problems. That legislation includes the Bailouts, Obamacare, and Dodd Frank. I expect who ever is our nominee to help their fellow Americans to remember this. He purchased weapons and gave them away to Mexican Drug Lords for the express purpose of promoting violent crime so that he could sway public opinion to be more amenable towards fire arms regulation. (He purposefully sought the death of American citizens in order to push gun control.) He lied to the American People about anything related to the, "Green Economy," in order to push for his initiatives which turned out to be nothing more than his Marxist leanings legislated or pushed by executive fiat, and to pay off his campaign donors. Once the whole crony capitalism empire started to collapse, he doubled down and is still out there touting businesses and industries which have already gone bankrupt. The entirety of the Middle East and North Africa are in flames, and currently in the hands of the very same people who flew planes into the Pentagon and the WTC. We actually fought along side of those very same evil thugs in the case of Libya, and have heralded the arrival of those same thugs in the case of Egypt. I don't know when I've felt so proud. Our national debt has gone from a serious problem to being a point of despair that makes me look back to the days of $450 Billion deficits as the good old days of responsibility. Gasoline is on the way to $5 per gallon, and the President's answer is to force it higher so that we will all use public transportation or spend a massive amount of money on his electric cars, which will still rely on electricity. This will be a problem as well, since he has stated that his goal is to bankrupt the coal burning power plants, even though they account for the vast majority of our electrical productive capacity.

I could keep going on, but I believe that we should all get the point by now. Don't despair, Whether it be Gingrich, whom I like, Santorum, or Romney, Barack Obama will have a long and healthy life, during which he will be reminded daily that the American People rejected both him and his ideas by an overwhelming margin. To make this vision a reality, all we need do is not to lose faith, to keep spreading the word, and to get out there and cast our votes when the time comes.

They Did It To Us Again.

First, have a listen to Charles Krauthammer's very accurate description of the, "Payroll Tax Cut."

We should always think of the early 2000's as a period of great public education. No, not as in our public school system, which has gotten progressively worse since the implementation and expansion of the Department of Education, but as in the things we in the public have either learned about our political leaders, or should have learned about them. For years they told us that the Social Security deduction from our pay checks were not taxes that we paid, but merely contributions into our own separate retirement accounts. This year, we learned that this was not true at all. It is a tax, and what's worse, it's a regressive tax. We were told recently that there was some sort of magic lock box where this money was kept, separate from all of the rampant irresponsible spending our elected leaders participate in for the express purpose of bribing us into reelecting them. We finally had it proven to us, that this is most certainly not the case, but that the money is part of our government's general fund, and has been all along.

I know there are many out there who will look at this article and exclaim, John, the Republicans voted for this too, and you are one of them. Let me make this one quick point before we move on. I am a conservative who believes either rightly or wrongly that in general, Republicans are more likely than Democrats to represent my ideals and values. I am beholden to my principles, and not the letter after someone's name. With that out of the way, this compromise, born of political gamesmanship is just flat out wrong.

For those people who are going to argue that I should be in favor of any tax cut, because I am a Republican, let's take a look at the economics of this one, past the slick sales messaging, and discover why Dr. Krauthammer referred to it as political crack. First off, it is very unlikely to have any effect at all upon job creation. Why, you may ask. Well, those people who own businesses, and are not W-2 employees will not be able to participate in the tax cut. It applied to deductions from W-2 wages only. So, the very group who might possibly have used the tax break, which is a pittance anyway, will not be able to take advantage anyhow. Secondly, if those idiotic $800 checks sent to every single American had zero effect on GDP, employment, job creation, etc., then why in the world would putting 5% of that into a smaller percentage of American's pockets have any effect? We must also ask ourselves why not just cut the tax rates charged to every American as a part of normal business by similar amounts in similar brackets, which actually may have stood a chance at spurring economic activity, especially if it were made permanent rather than a temporary vote buying measure. (By this I mean, make the 10% bracket a 6% bracket, and the 15% bracket an 11% bracket, and so on. Do not cut the brackets which exist beyond the OASDI cap limits.)

Now Let's Look at the economic damage done by this rotten idea. The Social Security System was already in big trouble, even before Barack Obama became President. The troubles with Social Security can not be blamed on President Obama, but on the fact that the system consists of two components, neither of which would have stood a snow ball's chance in heck of getting passed on its own. The first component is a regressive tax scheme, where by poor people are forced to pay a much higher percentage of their wages into a supposed reserve of funds. The second component consists of a welfare scheme where the benefits paid depends not at all upon the needs of the recipient, but upon the accident of which industry the recipient spent a majority of his working life employed by. Currently, the system has $109 Trillion in unfunded liabilities. This means that the amount of spending which is written into the law currently, exceeds both the funds we now have available to us, and those funds we expect to have available in the future. Quite frankly, we need to do something about the spending side of the Social Security equation. Revenue is not the huge problem, unless of course we do something foolish. Foolish would include cutting off the revenue source entirely, such as is the case with a payroll tax cut for all W-2 employees. Bankrupting the system sooner than would have happened had we done nothing, and for a benefit that will do no real economic good is bad enough. To do this for no other reason than to boost the President's temporary poll numbers by giving Americans the illusion of economic gain for 8 or 9 months while the can is further kicked down the road, conveniently until after the next election, is the height of cynical behavior. It's not just the President who is guilty of this, although on this one terrible decision, he actually led for once, but it was also any and all Republican Legislators who went along with it. When you hear the words compromise or bipartisan, you are not wrong if anger is your immediate response. What's worse of course, is that the President is actually out there taking a victory lap for this bit of malfeasance. It is a real shame that basic economics is not taught competently at the high school level.

President Bush was almost run out of town on a rail for suggesting that we move to a system which more resembled the Chilean system, one by the way that has a proven track record of success. Barack Obama is spiking the football for getting a suicidal approach passed. Our national politics have become the Twilight Zone, and Greece is our future should we fail to correct our course, and correct it soon. We have operated under the delusion in America for some time that our wealth and economic success were preordained. In fact, it was created by hard work and sacrifice of many who came before us, the foresight of our founders, and the free market system. We are capable of squandering that good fortune, and in fact are doing so at an alarming rate. Not one single action affected by President Obama so far has failed to hasten that decay of good fortune. This is no different, and that he is being applauded for it is especially scary. It means that we are indeed addicted to the political crack. America needs an intervention, sooner rather than later.

Sunday At The Movies! "Smiley's People," Chapter 3: Smiley's Informants

I will be placing a small glossary of terms at the bottom, as Le Carre's novels often include language that is hard for the first time readers to understand.

During Chapter 3, George Smiley continues on his task of sweeping up the bits, in order to prevent embarrassment for the Circus. His first stop this morning will be to his operational field box which he has kept hidden from the bureaucrats that used to employ him. It is this action which lets us all know that his plan is to continue forward with the operation that was started by the General and Otto Leipzig with a sting known as a Honey Trap. Smiley, without access to his old case files, as that would arouse suspicion at the Circus decides to speak with all of the people on whom he used to rely to help him with his memory. He follows the chain from Toby Esterhasse, former head of the Lamp Lighters, to Connie Sachs, the top Mother in Georges's Circus when he was in charge of MI6, to Claus Kretzschmar, his only contact to Otto Leipzig. You will also notice that from here on in, all of Smiley's people warn George that he is too old to be pursuing this line of work. Also worthy of note is that the order of George's progression is different in the novel. In the novel, George visits Connie Sachs first, and it is Connie who gives him the name of Oleg Kirov.

Faces you might recognize. Madame Ostrakova is played by Eileen Atkins who was also Maddy in, "Cold Mountain." One you won't recognize would belong to Andrew Bradford, who played the role of Ferguson. My research turned up that he has appeared as Harrison Ford's stunt double in almost every movie it seems where Ford needed a stunt double. Of course, I have not forgotten about the original Obi Wan Kenobi played by Alec Guinness.

WARNING: There is a period of partial nudity from the 43:36 mark until the 46:45 mark. During this period of time of our story, Smiley has entered the night club/ brothel owned by Claus Kretzschmar for the purposes of locating Otto Leipzig, and to warn Kretchmar that the General had been assassinated by Russian Scalp Hunters.

Honey Trap - A sexual trap intended for black mail or murder.

Housekeepers - Internal auditors or accountants who are used to insure discipline within the service.

Newt Gingrich's Interview At The Hoover Institution.

Peter Robinson has done a terrific job over the years in getting some of the best interviews. It's a real shame that none of these have been played anywhere near the main stream media. As a member of the Hoover Institution he has had access to Milton Friedman, Thomas Sowell, Victor Davis Hanson, and a plethora of Conservative Political types. Recently, Newt Gingrich sat down with Robinson. I found this on my facebook, as the Gingrich campaign began spreading it around yesterday. Whether you like the former Speaker or not, (I fit firmly in the Newt for President camp,) there is no denying that the man has an unparalleled intellect in political and historical matters. The harshest criticism of Speaker Gingrich is that he has too many good ideas, ouch. If you want a criticism of Gingrich, listen to his desire to see gas prices drop to $2.50 per gallon, rather than to drop to what ever the market dictates when allowed to seek their natural levels. Oh! I long for a politician who truly understands economics.

New Day, More Baloney Spin, We Need To Have This Fight Already.

One of the positives of being reported to, "Attack Watch," an earlier version of Team Obama's thought police from last year, (I believe the latest version has been dubbed the, "Truth Squad,") is that the Obama Campaign sends me all of their latest campaign paraphernalia, talking points, and outright fabrications. Take a good look at the picture above. When I opened my email earlier this morning, it caused me to send coffee through my nose.  So, for the various people, and there were a few, (and one I actually asked,) who reported me to the Obama snitch on your neighbor website, I say thank you.

Here's why the coffee flowed.  My right to swing my arms freely, ends at your nose.  Vice Versa for you by the way.  One thing the political left has always been better at than those of us on the right has always been their ability to shift the debate in both esoteric and substantive terms.  We, suck at it, they are great at it.  They are also better at the game of politicking than we are.  Case in point?  Look at every debate hosted by a non Fox team through this entire campaign so far.  If the Debate has lasted 2 hours, then the issue of abortion has taken up 1.  Our conversation nationally has been about almost everything else, bad economy, crippling debt, asinine foreign policy currently being utilized, socialized healthcare, decimation of our military, usurpation of our basic freedoms, a President suing individual States for protecting themselves from foreign invasion, and many more worth while topics.  And for any one left of center who is reading this and believes the media to be unbiased or dare I say it objective, read the Daily Caller's verifiable proof that the media has been coordinating with the Democrat Party, the White House, and Media Matters for years as to how to sway public opinion to get their chosen candidates elected.  The above picture is nothing more than that concept in action.

Notice how the concept of religious freedom is portrayed as the monster that prevents women from their right to use contraception.  We could get into a debate that would last all day and night and still not get anywhere as to the meaning of pursuit of happiness as found in the Declaration of Independence.  That is not the point.  The point is that the pursuit of happiness spoken of is a personal journey, and not one which involves the rest of society forking it over to you.  So, I will be more than happy to stipulate that any woman has the right to eat as much Acacia Root as she can stomach in order to avoid pregnancy, or any other method available, if she will stipulate that it is none of my business.  I would also ask that it be stipulated that it is not the business of any third persons.  Your right to pursue your dreams of not having any children belong to you, and you alone, just as my right to pursue my dream of the Swedish Bikini Team feeding me grapes on a beach in the tropics is mine, and mine alone.

When something is not my business, I should not have to pay for it, and most especially should not have to perform the service for it.  So, for those of you who have posted this picture to your facebook page as the President's team of miscreants have suggested, I say this.  Take all the contraceptive measures you wish to take, but spring for the expense on your own.  Catholic Charities happens to be the single largest provider of health care in the United States.  If you do not appreciate the religious doctrine which has driven them to operate their hospitals, funded by patients, insurance companies, with huge shortfalls made up by private donation, then go and open your own hospital or donate to a health care provider that is not run by the Catholics.  There are plenty of other places for you to get your services provided.  Planned Parenthood springs immediately to mind.  While we are on that subject, fund that yourselves as well, as using taxpayer money to pay for that impinges upon my freedom to do what ever I so choose with my money.  (I believe the beach and bikini clad Swedes is a vision I have already shared.)

Part of Catholic Charities operating their hospitals is that ultimately, they answer to their religious beliefs.  If you see the word Mercy on the marquee, or notice a giant cross standing on the grounds, it may be a good bet that things will be administrated by folks with deep religious convictions.  This being America however, you have a choice.  There are other places you can go, and almost always other options.  I, in my 50 odd years have never heard anyone argue that contraception be made illegal.  Only that taxpayers not be responsible for the bill, and now, that doctors who do not wish to perform these services, not be forced to do so.  This President has turned our Constitution on its ear.  What he has done a masterful job at as well though, is to spin his messaging in such a way as to make the weak minded believe that he is actually defending the Constitution.  All one needs in order to believe that, is the belief in a, "living breathing document," rather than in interpretation based on what it actually says.  I guess my favorite part of that picture is the pose of a man lecturing to the rest of us.  He appears both benevolent and condescending, all at once.  That picture almost makes me forget, just for a moment or two, Barack Obama is the least qualified person in any room he enters.

In less than 4 weeks time, the Supreme Court will hear 3 days of oral arguments on Obamacare.  I hope the scope of what they look at reaches beyond the individual mandate and the whole question of how far the commerce clause allows malevolent politicians to destroy the remainder of the document.  Huge as that decision is on its own merits, there is so much more malfeasance to consider hear, like the continuation of the Tenth Amendment being rendered inert.  President Obama issued an edict stating that the Catholic Church be forced to provide the same services as Planned Parenthood, and we all took the bait.  Our outrage was at the edict itself, and it should have been at the fact that President Obama issued an edict at all.  This is the fight I would like to see taking place in the Supreme Court.

Finding Out What's In It: Part XVI

I'm sure we've all heard the story about that child in North Carolina, (congratulations to the good people of that state by the way, you've won the most thuggish SEIU goons prize for this year,) who had her lunch stolen from her by supposed adults and replaced with some greasy deep fried chicken nuggets, and then got to take a bill home to Mom. In case you haven't, here it is.

Now, as you watch the news report, we see a thorough job of reporting that manages to miss the mark completely, which is a sad commentary on our society and the level of decay we have allowed ourselves to reach. We learn what a healthy packed lunch as provided by U.S.D.A. guidelines consists of. We learned that the mother actually did hit those guidelines and packed a lunch which should have passed inspection by the hired SEIU thug tasked with terrorizing the kiddies that day. We learned that the child actually ate a government provided lunch which was no where near the U.S.D.A. guidelines that they accused the mother of missing. (The little girl ate only 3 chicken Nuggets, and nothing else.) We learned that the school magnanimously came to the decision not to bill Mom the $1.25 for the lunch which was forcibly provided.

The outrage however has nothing to do with any of these facts. The outrage is that there even exists a lunch inspection at all. Where do these people get off injecting themselves into the private business between parent and child. Well, as it turns out, the Obamacare law gives the local school districts this authority, and even the responsibility to accomplish this act of brutality by 2014. This school district just happened to take the initiative to get er done quicker. Maybe, our elected representatives should have bothered to read this piece of crap law, while it was still a bill. Remember in November, not a Single Republican voted for this monstrosity, which directs union goons to steal food from small children.

Between this, and last week's announcement of catholic charities hospitals being forced to provide contraceptive and abortive services as a part of their care, and the further determination that they must pay for the party as well, (even though the President magnanimously decided in the same arbitrary manner that insurance companies would pay the bill, while catholic charities must still perform the procedures,) it should be clear to even the dimmest among us that this Law gives the Executive Branch unprecedented authority to interject themselves into our daily lives. The problem with this Health Care law, beyond the fact that it is completely not affordable, destined to destroy the world's finest health care system, will cause rationing, artificial shortages of medications, grant imbecile bureaucrats the ability to make medical decisions which previously were in the hands of medical professionals, it also gives those same bureaucrats broad authority to make all manner of private decisions based on a supposed health impact with absolutely no recourse available for the governed.

The way this Law is written, as with almost every piece of bilge that flows from Washington D.C., allows for those aforementioned bureaucrats to increase the scope and authority of their mandate, and to do it unchecked by any type of oversight. What happens when a bureaucrat determines that playing with rockem sockem robots is a health risk for small children who are not getting enough exercise for their liking? What happens when these bureaucrats determine that your sissy drink from Starbucks is placing a burden on the health system because too much caffeine is bad for your heart? Before you accuse me of being silly or hyperbolic, how many of you thought an adult would tear the bagged lunch from a four year old child and send a note home to his mother that the lunch did not measure up? How many of you thought that this same child would be told that her mother was doing a bad job of raising her?

Liberals are dangerous people and must be defeated. I can't wait for these people to be gone.

A Program The Liberals Are Willing To Cut, And Cut Savagely

Political Cartoons by Bob Gorrell

I have been unfair to the President and his contingent of Marxist minions. I have made numerous statements over the 15 months since I began writing this blog that they were all suffering from some sort of affliction that causes them to spend like drunken sailors on the only leave allowed for several years. Besides the obvious point that at least drunken sailors are blowing through their own money, it ignores completely the fact that there is an area where these people are savagely frugal. Unfortunately, that one area is one of the very few areas of spending specifically mentioned as being approved of by our Constitution.

The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes,
Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide
for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United
States; but all Duties, Imposts and Excises shall be uniform
throughout the United States

The above statement comes from Article I, Section 8, Paragraph 1 of our constitution. Defense spending, much to the chagrin of the liberals, progressives, no labels, or what ever in the heck they are calling themselves this week, remains the only specific spending mentioned as necessary in our founding document. The leftists in this country scream constantly about what a waste any military spending is, and they make these claims regardless of the hard lessons taught to us by history and even some current events. Their argument is that if we just pretended that evil does not exist in the world today, then we will all be free to live in some kind of worker's paradise where unicorns will be free to sing Kumbayah.

We could argue the merits of a more efficient military and one geared for a different type of warfare more likely to be waged in the future, but these proposed cuts go well beyond even that deceptive argument. (To be sure, that argument has always been deceptive, as it pretends at its core that this new type of warfare and ability to wage it would be free of any associated costs.) The proposed cuts to our military as they appear in the new budget proposal campaign document, nearly cuts our current military in half, and simultaneously requires that any broken or outdated equipment go without repair. Thank God and the voters for giving us all, including the mentally impaired liberal voters a Republican controlled House.  One of the things I shouted personally from the rooftops during the entirety of 2008 was that if elected, Barack Obama would decimate our military and leave us as a much more vulnerable nation.  I was laughed at as being hyperbolic, an alarmist, and unrealistic.  The liberals all assured me that while his campaign rhetoric necessarily had to pander to his lunatic base, he was really and truly a patriot in the fine pragmatic tradition of Democrat Politicians of yore like Zell Miller and Scoop Jackson and dare I say it, John Glenn.  How's that prediction looking now?

I will at least give President Obama some credit here.  He has finally done something at last to distinguish himself from James Earl Carter.  While Jimmy Carter did cut some Defense Department Programs, to pander to the lunatics to whom he promised to decimate our military, he also replaced those programs with those that benefited the contractors that were friendlier to the Democrat Party apparatchiks.  The result during the Carter Years was a net increase in Military Spending.  These cuts would still be unpalatable, but less so if there were any other hard decisions anywhere in his proposal.  While cutting the military in half, there are enough increases in entitlement spending to still have a budget that would see a net increase of spending which tops off at an extra $300 Billion.  Consider this, in order for this to be the case, entitlements needed to increase by an amount equal to the entirety of the defense budget for fiscal 2011.  That represents the increase only, on top of the already monstrous scope of the 8 Million pound gorilla on our collective, pun intended, backs.  Let that soak in for a moment.

So why Defense, and Defense alone, as the only single place to make actual cuts?  Let me ask it another way.  If you were attempting to destroy our nation, or even seeking to make us more vulnerable for others to destroy our nation, is there anything you would have done differently than what Barack Obama has done during his 39 months in office so far?  Please, if you have any thoughts on this, add them within the comments section below, in any of the forums where this posting ends up.  I am interested in what more Barack Obama could have done to destroy America in the time allotted, or how anything he has done actually made us stronger as a nation.

the mask is fully off of this naked emperor now.  His ultimate goal is the weakening of our nation.  He has been a busy little beaver in affecting that change.  For years, I was teetering on the fence in the great evil or just incompetent debate.  I had moved to the evil side about 8 weeks ago, and this firmly cements me in that camp.  Our President hates America and hates the principles under which we were founded as a nation.  I can't wait for these people to be gone.

The Kabuki Budget! You're Gonna Love It!

Michael Ramirez Cartoon

President Obama performed some more of his Kabuki Theater for our entertainment yesterday in another nationally televised campaign stump speech thinly disguised as his second budget proposal out of 4 such opportunities. He proffered one in 2009, and it failed in the Democrat Senate, by a vote of 0 to 97. The House never took the matter up for a vote. He failed to propose one in 2010, even though his party still held the House, and a near super majority in the Senate. 2011 sailed through without a budget proposal, but instead two major battles over debt resulting from uncontrolled spending. So yesterday, he told us that suddenly, we can not wait any longer, that we needed to pass a budget, his budget without any delay. He did so with his usual soaring rhetoric and spiffy sounding platitudes. In fact, not a single ill timed pause slipped from the most eloquent teleprompter constructed in human history. The extremely sad fact is that our government has operated without a budget since the Democrats took control of the House in January of 2007. I'm just spit balling here, but perhaps the fact that we have gone 5 full years with out imposing limits upon the spending habits of the most irresponsible people on the planet may have something to do with the fact that we are soon to be screwed, if not there already.

Yesterday's production of, "we should all hate the rich and use that hatred to convince ourselves to commit economic suicide," eloquent though it may have been, and as slickly produced as ever, is starting to wear thin. The President assured us that it is unfair to ask regular people to sacrifice by giving up their basket of free goodies from the public largess while we did not seek to confiscate more from our top wage earners. (It should be noted for the millionth time, income is taxed in our nation, while wealth is not. So when you hear a statement about America's wealthiest 1% not paying their fair share this autumn, bear in mind that Warren Buffett will not be affected in the slightest way by the soon to be announced tax changes.) He further stated that our top wage earners are in fact getting off the hook by not contributing to the public good at all. So, it is worth mentioning that the top 10% of wage earners in fact pay about 76% of our total tax burden. The top 10% of wage earners in fact contribute about $1.6 Trillion of the $2.1 Trillion of revenues confiscated by force by our Federal Behemoth.

The free goodies of course, well they were left unharmed by the Kabuki Budget. Sure, we were treated to soaring rhetoric about making tough choices, and we were promised once again that while we would necessarily increase our actual spending this year by $400 Billion, we would be spending less money in 2018. This of course will be two years after the next Presidential Election safely protects Barack Obama from the ensuing consequences. While President Obama has stated that he will cut $4 Trillion in spending over the next decade by spending more, he failed to disclose some mighty important facts. One of those facts was that the $4 Trillion savings figure was based on the magic that is baseline budgeting and the ridiculously inaccurate accounting that it produces. The truth is that we will in fact increase our deficit spending by a mind blowing $7 Trillion over the next decade. Included in this insanity of course in some hefty subsidies for the already failed green fairy economy.

The budget proposal is in fact so egregiously political, that the President's Budget Director took to the customary bank of microphones yesterday and already began blaming Senate Republicans for stopping this terrible idea from becoming a reality based on the notion that the Democrats only have a simple majority in the Senate and not a Super majority. Two things struck me immediately about this, one, why not pick on the Republican controlled House, and this one actually has me stumped. Two, a super majority is not necessary to pass a budget item, as this was how the Senate ended up passing Obamacare in the end. Budgetary matters only require 51 votes, or even 50 plus the Vice Presidential tie breaker. Making a gaffe on this little bit of Legislative procedure is curious enough, especially since it encapsulates the entirety of Jack Lew's job, but I suppose that it has been such a long time between budgets, that the White House Budget Director may feel just a little rusty when discussing his area of supposed expertise. The sad fact is though, Jack Lew also served as Bill Clinton's Budget Director, and did this job during an era when actually having a budget was the norm and not the exception that it has become today.

Please enjoy some lunacy for your reading pleasure from Jeffrey Zients, an Obama Administration stooge.

JEFFREY ZIENTS: I think the President has put forward today a balanced budget. Balanced in two ways. First of all, the President invests and makes immediate investments in job creation, starting with making sure that the payroll tax cut continues, and that we do not have a tax increase on 160 million Americans. The President also has proposals to put Americans back to work, on infrastructure projects, to modernize our schools, to help rebuild our neighborhoods. At the same time, we have year over year of deficit reduction, leading to a stable debt to GDP ratio by 2018. So it’s balanced, in that we have immediate job creation and then we have deficit reduction. And the deficit reduction itself is done in a balanced way. $2.50 of spending cuts for every dollar of new revenue. So I think this is a responsible budget and we hope Congress takes it seriously and passes it’s into law soon.

Is that what we get instead of actual leadership from a President who has spent the entirety of his 39 months in office on a perpetual campaign to win reelection? I realize that an adult memory is a lot to ask of our friends who live left of center, but try to strain yourselves just a little bit. We spent $1 Trillion on these same shovel ready infrastructure projects 3 short years ago, and another $ 1 Trillion on a bail out of the political allies of Barack Obama, and it has not done anything positive. We flushed the money into the Potomac, and now the President proposed to flush another $ 7 Trillion down the Potomac. Albert Einstein once quipped that insanity was doing the same activity repeatedly, expecting different results. The sad truth is that this entire sad affair will resolve itself, if we fail to take action to resolve it. That solution will be much more painful, just ask the good people of Greece.

When I was a child in the small community of Wheeling, West Virginia, three of us got the bright idea to dare each other to ride our bicycles down the three hills that ran behind Steenrod School without using our brakes. Bobby went first, and spent the next 6 weeks with a cast on his arm. The next morning, Billy took his turn and the result was two arms in casts for him, plus some stitches. The following morning, on cue, the knock came on the door, "your turn Wis." Looking at three casts on arms, plus some mighty fine looking human embroidery, I decided to forego the disaster and not to follow the other lemmings off of the cliff. They called me chicken and were generally not at all happy that I was not willing to put aside my lessons learned at their expense. Here we are, the three of us in or near our 50's, and I am the only one who can say that my arms do not ache when it rains. I had learned to peek into a possible future by watching the hard lessons learned by others. Europe has taken that ill advised bicycle ride down the three hills behind Steenrod. She has both arms in a cast and requires stitches.

Let Daniel Hannan explain it.

The Real Issue With The President's Contraception Kerfuffle

 Political Cartoons by Michael Ramirez
The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution,
nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to
the States respectively, or to the people.

The above sentence is the Tenth Amendment to our Constitution. Besides being another piece of the Bill of Rights completely ignored by the ACLU, Liberals in general will like to pretend that its meaning can not be divined. That somehow, this one simple sentence is so mysterious in meaning, that it must simply be ignored. So, as a public service, I'll give it a try. What I see when I read that is a statement that the Federal Government, be it represented by the Executive, Legislative, or Judicial branch, does not have the authority to grant itself powers not expressly mentioned in the Constitution. What the founding fathers feared most, was a central government growing in size and scope beyond the control of the governed. This Amendment which is one of the 10 which the individual states demanded be put into place before ratifying this new law for our new nation, is for that purpose alone. It was a statement to the behemoth of today, if we did not specifically write that power or authority into the document in the first place, you do not have it. You can only do what we have specifically gave permission for you to do.

What perplexes me is how anyone can speak of Barack Obama as being some kind of Constitutional Scholar. He is all over Youtube grousing about how the Constitution really missed the boat by not granting the Federal Government authority to do more to enforce social and economic justice. In order to make that leap, one has to skip over this particular amendment. so that we are all clear about what the Bill of Rights represents, and the importance of all 10 of these Amendments, the Constitution would never have been ratified without any one of them. For you liberals, that includes the Second and the Tenth.

Recently, President Obama announced that a provision of the Obamacare Law granted him authority to force health care providers, regardless of their religious affiliation or not, to provide for contraceptive and/or pregnancy termination services. A very warranted public outcry ensued. President Obama has for his entire legislative and Political Executive life been waging an undeclared war against any religion other than Islam. Before people start screaming that Barack Obama is not a secret Muslim or what ever other cries of indignation anyone may wish to throw my way, the record of Barack Obama is crystal clear. Islam is exempt from this sour little man's wrath, while Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism, and Judaism are not. We heard everyone discussing the clear violation of the First Amendment which was taking place, and sure enough, the President magnanimously decided that the hospitals run by the single largest provider of Health Care in America, Catholic Charities, would not have to pay for abortions and contraceptives after all. They must still provide them of course, but Barack Obama has found a way to accommodate the accountants by issuing an edict. As of now, insurance companies will have to pay for everything. So, here we are two days later, and I am happy to say that not many people have been fooled by this clear attempt to deflect from the truth. There is another point however, that even we conservatives have missed.

I must say something here as an aside. My conservatism does not stem from religious convictions. That is to say, I am not a social conservative. I am a free marketeer. My argument here is not about the, "free choice versus right to life," debate per say. While I believe that the First Amendment is extremely important to the health of out society, I can see that the argument of religious morals often finds its way beyond this boundary. That is to say, I can see the difference between a woman choosing to terminate her pregnancy of her own volition, and forcing other taxpayers to pay for it. I can also see a clear distinction between a woman's decision to terminate her pregnancy of her own volition, and forcing an unwilling physician to perform the procedure. In those instances, free choice is removed from one group entirely.

What has gone unnoticed in this entire debate is the fact that the Obamacare law spits on the Tenth Amendment. Put another way, has anyone else in America noticed how the President has just declared that it is his decision to make which services physicians would perform whether or not they wished to do so, and who is going to pay for it? I guess this is what happens when we pass a law without reading it first, but then again, I refuse to believe that Barack Obama did not have any idea that this monstrosity would grant him dictatorial powers to edict that doctors would perform according to his wishes and that the costs would be covered by whomever he so chooses. This is about far more than abortions, this is about the Executive Branch being constrained by the consent of the governed. If he can say an act must be performed, than he will also have the authority prohibit actions as well. Where does anybody realistically see this stopping? Even if you believe the current President to be the benevolent Messianic figure the non Fox Media has assured us he is, what about the President who will be in office 20 years from now? Does that President deserve the unbridled dictatorial powers, sight unseen? Remember that George W. Bush, someone half of you hated before Barack Obama won the job was also a President of the United States.

One word to the Social Conservatives. I appreciate hearing your voice, and agree with you far more than I disagree. While this issue will never be at the top of my importance list, and I will never agree with teaching intelligent design as science in a school where my children attend, there is far more to this entire thing than what is being discussed, and it is a real shame that the bigger picture is not a part of the debate. This President has made it his mission to grab as much power for the Executive Branch as is possible. He has trashed our Constitution in the process, while eschewing the very limited actual duties of a President, as proscribed by the Constitution. As an example, defending our citizens against all enemies both foreign and domestic. (Just ask the good people of Arizona who have been warned by our President to stay clear of their own desert lest they find themselves victim to the drug cartels who have invaded there.) While we were all arguing over whether or not people should be getting abortions or wearing condoms, he has very slyly gotten us all to accept his ultimate authority on demanding who pay for those abortions which care providers will now be forced to perform.

Sunday At The Movies! "Smiley's People," Chapter 2: Smiley Investigates

I will be placing a small glossary of terms at the bottom, as Le Carre's novels often include language that is hard for the first time readers to understand.

Faces you might recognize: Alan Rickman, he has appeared in movies such as Die Hard, Dogma, Galaxy Quest, and portrayed Professor Snape in the Harry Potter Series. Michael Gough, who also played Alfred Pennyworth in several of the Batman Movies.

During Chapter Two we see George Smiley, former head of the British Intelligence Service beginning his task handed to him by the bureaucrats who have ruined the functionality of his spy agency almost immediately upon his retirement. In chapter one we learned that the entire department of Scalp Hunters had been sidelined, forced defections, honey traps, and other practices of less than savory behavior were now not allowed in a more politically correct intelligence service. The bureaucrats were far more concerned with stopping embarrassment than they were with finding out why Vladimir was assassinated. Smiley goes about the business of stopping the leak, but exceeds his mandate by also following through on determining what information Vladimir was trying to pass to him and why. The discovery of the General's dog having been killed as well puts to rest any notion of this having been a simple mugging.

Warning: There is a brief moment of partial nudity which occurs intermittently from 48:00 until 48:31. George Smiley is inspecting the negative from a honey trap ordered by General Vladimir.

Ferrets - Tech people who find and remove bugs, cameras, or an attempt to spy on the good guys.

Honey Trap - A sexual trap intended for black mail or murder.

Housekeepers - Internal auditors or accountants who are used to insure discipline within the service.

Inquisitors - Interrogators who debrief agents or defectors.

Pavement Artists - Specialized surveillance teams who can follow without getting caught.

Priests - The bureaucratic appointees charged with overseeing the political functioning of the British Intelligence Service.

Scalp hunters - Professional thugs, handling assassinations, bribery, break ins, beatings, kidnappings etc.

Shoemakers - Forgers, they provide false identities in the form of passports, drivers licenses, etc.

Wranglers - Intelligence analysts, cryptographers, the people who look at raw reports, documents, photos, etc., and pass on authenticity, meaning, scope, etc.

Newt Gingrich At CPAC

Yesterday I gave you Rick Santorum's CPAC speech. Today is Newt Gingrich's turn. If Santorum Rocked the place, Gingrich Tore it up. He got the crowd cheering by the end of his 20 minutes. CPAC was one of the organizations that Gingrich actually helped to found, as one of the few conservatives in Washington D.C. There are a lot of folks who are counting Newt out once again. I am not one of them. While I will concede that he has been hurt from Florida on, one of the things Mitt and or Santorum needed to do to put him away was to have this thing won by Super Tuesday, which sees a huge amount of delegates being awarded in States which are in the Gingrich Wheelhouse. That is not going to happen. The momentum from this primary has shifted back and forth and back again. We may yet get our conservative candidate. Gingrich is my choice, but I would also feel comfortable voting for Santorum.

Special note to the Paulbats. Under no circumstances would I ever vote for your man. While the Libertarians may share fiscal conservatism with us, there ends the relationship. His views on foreign policy have crossed the boundaries from loopy to idiocy to downright dangerous a long time ago. On those issues, he is as loony a Liberal as there is, and his agenda would result in the deaths of Billions. So stop with the, "Ron Paul is the only true conservative," nonsense already. He is an old hippie who took an economics class. His followers are young hippies with a slightly more annoying repartee than the originals.

Republican Soap Opera: As The Momentum Swings.

First my fellow conservatives, enjoy a red meat speech made by Rick Santorum at CPAC yesterday.

Before you get carried away, remember that he delivered this speech at CPAC. On the trail so far, Santorum has been a stalwart conservative, not just on his religious issues, but on fiscal and economic issues as well. His assessment of the problems that the conservative movement experienced during the 2006 and 2008 election cycles is absolutely spot on. During those two elections, the political leaders paid for the habit of governing as progressives who sought to be seen as Democrat lite, a brand of politician loathed equally by those on the left and right side of the aisle. Interesting that Rick Santorum would have made this observation, since in 2006, he was one of those very same political leaders fired by the constituents of his State.

Santorum's case here seems to be very similar to that of Newt Gingrich, which is, "I've learned my lesson." Prior to 2000, Rick Santorum was a conservative stalwart in the Legislative Branch. As George Bush became increasingly unpopular, he pandered to the progressives in a mistaken effort to keep his seat, when he should have doubled down on the message that got him elected in the first place. I have no doubt that Rick Santorum is one of us at heart. More importantly, he is a conservative on a multitude of issues and not just one pet issue.

There are many different stripes of conservatives, and all of them look at the rest of the movement as not conservative enough. I have been to a few rallies, and have had a good laugh or two along the way. We have free marketeers, hawks, religiously based conservatives, constitutionalists, tax reformers, libertarians, and all of them will be happy to tell you that their group is the only true member of the coalition. We should be very careful in how we administer our purity tests, as Ronald Reagan is not available to run again.

Watch for the same types of attacks to be leveled against Rick Santorum that we have seen leveled against Rick Perry, Herman Cain, and Newt Gingrich. I don't know what baggage Santorum has, but I expect to see a full front page dump running for an entire day on Drudge, the NYT, Time, Newsweek, ABC, NBC, CNN, and CBS. The left would love nothing better than to hold another election between a Marxist and Marxist lite. Mitt Romney represents the latter in that scenario, just like John McCain did 4 years ago. My personal belief is that it is time to stand up for our conservative principles and have this fight for the direction America is going to take already. Both Gingrich and Santorum are espousing, with passion, the conservative principles that our side believes in. Each of these two has shown that this language is natural for them. Neither of them feels the need to apologize for their conservatism. We may get Rick and not Newt, and I am O.K. with that.
